august 2003 Booze News

District 14 met on 10 August in Belleville with the King’s House Group hosting. There were 19 GSR’s and guests in attendance. There will be no meeting in September according to tradition. The 12 October 2003 meeting will be hosted by the Coffee Pot Group in Shiloh. The 9 November and 14 December meetings are tentatively to be hosted by the Wades Square Group. The time for all GSR Meetings remains the same at 1 pm. See you there…..

NOTES FROM THE MEETING:

GSR’s were again asked for Group Histories. These are an interesting and worthwhile endeavor. You learn many things about the group and the local AA. Work with someone on drafting one for your group.

A proposal to combine CPC/PI into one job was raised. This is the case in many other districts around the country. This will not be done is District 14. Chester P. (337-1476) is the new CPC.

CPC (Chester P. - 337-1476): After he stated that he had contacted GSO for a kit on CPC, Sue S. stated she had the kit from the previous CPC person in the garage. This will be furnished to Chester in the near future. Chester will then have a plethora of CPC information.

PI (Chuck G. - 337-5327). District 14 maintains 5 literature racks around the Metro East area. Literature will be ordered to restock these fully. A rack will soon be placed at St Mary’s and also in the TASC location.

Corrections (Doug T. - 337-8451): Chuck G. has been approved to go inside SWICC. He has in fact started a meeting at 7 pm on Monday Night.

Bridging the Gap (Gordon N. - 222-0786): Mike B. from over in the St Louis area is in the position of Bridging the Gap for that region. Gordon will arrange for him to come to the next GSR Meeting and talk to the District about what and how they work this area. This presentation will be done at the Oct 2003 GSR Meeting.

Answering Service (Tim R. - 337-1476): Tim contacted Domyan Answering Svc and they will be mailing the phone records to him to be reported at the October 2003 GSR Meeting.

Webmaster(Rick H. - 277-8459): A presentation was made by Rich M. on two items that were should not be on the website, i.e., links. A solid 20-minute discussion then ensued on the contents of the District 14 AA Website. This discussion then resulted in a committee being formed to make recommendations (and why) to the District 14 Webmasterfor tweaking of the District 14 Website.

After some discussion, soft-copy Big Books, pocket-sized 12x12’s and recovery pamphlets (8 cases/boxes) were to be ordered for use at SWICC, St Clair County Jail and AA literature racks.

The womens meeting at the St Clair County Jail still needs more women to help conduct meetings.

There was some discussion about District’s 14 & 18 becoming involved with the St Louis Metro Area Intergroup. This would result in a combined Where & When for the whole area plus the added expense of supporting the Intergroup. Purchasing literature would be somewhat cheaper. As one might expect, there was considerable discussion on this with both positive and negative opinions expressed. This will be again discussed at the Oct 2003 GSR meeting. (click here).will attempt to produce a combined District 14/18 Where & When for exhibit at the Oct 2003 GSR meeting.

The 2003 Alkathon will see the use of a Kiddie Patrol as was used in the 2003 Corned Beef & Cabbage. It was extremely successful at the CB&C. Donations made it possible.

Entertainment at the 2003 Alkathon will be the responsibility of the Group hosting the Dances.

Maggie E. (GSR - Kings House) brought up the problem of small groups hosting the GSR meetings. It might be a good idea for small groups to collaborate on a GSR meeting to be held at a free or inexpensive site. More discussion at the Oct 2003 GSR meeting.
