Is AA right for me?

Only you can decide if you want to give AA a try and if it is right for you. We who are in AA came because we finally gave up trying to control our drinking.

We still hated to admit that we could not drink safely. Then we heard from other AA members that we were sick (we thought so for years!).

We discovered that many people suffered from the same feelings of guilt, loneliness, and hopelessness as we did. We found out that we had these feelings because we had the disease of alcoholism.

How does it work?

In our experience, the only way that alcoholics recover is by working with another alcoholic. We do this by attending meetings, finding a sponsor (someone you can call for help and who will work directly with you), and working the steps. Most of us have worked the steps by reading the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, with our sponsor and turning our will over to a power greater than ourselves.

You never have to drink again. If you feel like drinking, reach out for help immediately.

AA does NOT:

Solicit members, make medical diagnoses, provide hospitalization or drugs, keep attendance records/case histories, offer religious services, and participate in research, legislation, or advocacy.
